Session Maintenance and SOE Services Maintenance – Tuesday, February 17th
Everquest 2Beginning at 4:00 AM PST on Tuesday, February 17th, all log-in servers will be undergoing maintenance. During this maintenance you will be unable to log-in to all games and account management tools, and you will be disconnected from the server if you are already logged in. We expect this maintenance to take approximately 30 minutes.

Also on Tuesday, February 17th, from 6:00-8:00 AM PST, SOE Account and Commerce flow, the Station Store, will be unavailable due to maintenance. We expect this maintenance to take approximately 2 hours.

This maintenance will prevent log-ins, but players who are in-game should stay in game until they zone or otherwise make a request from the session system.

This might also cause some forum accounts to temporarily lose permissions, due to the inability to verify account status while the maintenance is taking place. This is only temporary and normal permissions will return automatically once the maintenance is complete.

We apologize for these interruptions and will resume all affected services as soon as the maintenance is completed.

  Lavastorm Revamp Preview!
Everquest 2

GU #51, Elements of Corruption, brings with it the much anticipated revamp of the Lavastorm zone! We've all spent many happy hours there slaying Sootfoots and those crawly bug guys, not to mention the trek up to Sol Eye! The zone you know and love will still be there. Nothing is being removed, but some very exciting additions are being made, not the least of which is easier travel through the minefield of lava pockets.

Why has the face of Lavastorm changed? The Mistress of Elemental Magic, Najena, is making her presence felt!

The inhabitants of Lavastorm are feeling a presence they know well; a presence they felt long ago. Najena lurks deep within her fortress, The Ward of Elements, preparing herself for conflict. The armies of Theer are storming the coasts of Lavastorm! The Order of the Flame works frantically to place in motion plans to aid Najena in her fight against the invaders. By no means will it be an easy fight, though. An adversary from Najena's past has returned and he is set to corrupt and control the minds of all who dare to oppose him.

The Ward of Elements

Having been defeated in her Hollow Tower, Najena fled deeper into her lair. There she has worked tirelessly to unlock the powers and secrets of the Rune of Theer. Through the course of her studies, Najena found the tiny rune to carry great and terrible power. Something about it felt familiar to her, and hoping to mimic and develop counters to the void power within the rune, Najena delved ever further into the strange magics. Too far. The Elemental Mistress sent ripples throughout the fabric of the magical world. The agents of Theer felt these and sent forth a champion to put an end to Najena's meddling.

The Order of Flame

Long ago there was an ancient order that inhabited the Temple of Solusek Ro in Lavastorm. They were nearly annihilated and forced from their temple so long ago that the reason has been lost to history. The Order of Flame is a small group of mages who have returned to Lavastorm and the temple of their god to continue his worship. Najena cultivated a relationship with the order when she reemerged in Norrath by claiming that she, too, was dedicated to the glory of Solusek Ro. Whether or not this is true or she is just using the order for her own ends has yet to be seen. Regardless of her motives, the Order of Flame is lending her aid in her current trials and taking up arms once again to combat the denizens of The Void as they did in ancient times.

The Sootfoot Goblins

Everyone is familiar with this clan of goblins. They can be seen all over Lavastorm slaving away. For whom do they work? Anyone scary enough to intimidate them! They are primarily miners and throw their hands (paws?) into a little dark magic here and there as well. Normally hunted by adventurers, with the changes brewing in their home, they will start to reach out to visitors for help. Just beware, their ideas of help may differ from everyone else's!

What to Expect

The original quests will remain! Nothing is being removed. New things are being added though, and we'll be showcasing them in the coming weeks.

There will be:

  • A new x2 dungeon
  • New solo content for high level adventurers
  • A new x4 raid zone
  • A new crafting zone

Stay tuned!

  GU 51 - Heirlooms?
Everquest 2Well being a crafter at heart, I was browsing Trader's Corner and ran across this article. What I gather from reading this is that in GU 51 some no-trade items will be able to be placed in the shared bank slots. Interesting stuff.

Quote::
Among the crafting-related items that will be impacted:

Far Seas Supply Division tokens
Void Shards
RoK faction recipe books (for special RoK faction recipes)
Advanced Level 70-79 recipe books offered by the RoK factions (Advanced 70-74 in Rillis/Bathezid, 75-79 in Danak)
Proof in the Pudding items

Here is the article: EQ2 Trader's Corner

  GU #51 - Lucan’s Art of War
Everquest 2Huge changes for tanks and anyone that deals with Hate gain and loss! Whether you like it or not, it's coming Smile Raltar has been doing his own little happy dance ever since it was originally announced Smile He can FINALLY BE A TANK!!

The new Hate Meter will be a simple way for people to understand why they get aggro when they unleash all their CA's or Nukes at the same time.

In my opinion, I hope this will get people to be a little more involved with how their character works. EQ2 has gotten pretty easy with all the higher level hate transfer abilities and so much concentration on DPS that there really isn't much to do other than spam all yer spells without having to be careful not to screw things up. Basically, I'm hoping this will make battles more challenging Smile

  Hate Changes, A Brief Explanation
Everquest 2Found this originally on Massively.com - but read the complete details on the Sony EQ2 Forums. I'm glad they are changing this as I really dislike how the only way to really hold aggro in the higher level ranges is by doing more damage rather than by using our taunts and defensive stance. This whole aggro thing is also going to affect out dps classes supposedly. Here's hoping it works Very Happy

An Overview

EverQuest II is a complex game containing 24 classes which all need to have their own personal identity. This results in a number of spells and combat arts which when put together make players very powerful. One aspect where this is very noticeable is with fighters. The goal of the fighter is to deal with incoming damage from an NPC while also making sure the NPC keeps focus on the fighter instead of his or her allies. This was once true and the fighters did just this holding aggro with taunts and absorbing the damage through mitigation or avoidance of the attacks. Overtime, this morphed more into the fighter holding aggro through certain buff combinations and by maximizing their damage potential.

In short, these changes are about getting back to those roots. Fighters continue to focus on taking damage but now we need to refocus the fighter on holding aggro through their taunt abilities instead of purely through damage.

From the damage class perspective, things are equally troubled. Most damage classes can freely go 100 percent with little risk due to certain spells they have or may receive. This gives little risk to the damage class and makes certain spells which reduce your aggro have little to no value. Aggro is a two way street. The fighters need to gain as much as they possibly can but the damage classes need to watch what they are doing. This is why the changes are not restricted to just fighters because we want to emphasize this fact.
